Century 2, Quatrain 62
Mabus will soon die, then will come
A horrible slaughter of people and animals.
At once vengeance comes from a hundred lands,
Thirst, hunger and famine when the comet will run.
Ray Mabus was appointed by President Bill Clinton to be the United States ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 1994 to 1996. He is now the secretary of the Navy having the distinction of serving two years in the Navy as a surface warfare officer from the years 1970 to 1972 onboard the USS Little Rock. The first quatrain seems to indicate the defeat of a Western navy or fleet of ships. It is interesting to note that the United States is constantly sending aircraft carrier groups into the Persian Gulf to maintain stability after Iran threatened to close off the strategically important Strait of Hormuz with mines. Iran has a credible inventory of Chinese made anti-ship missiles, both sea and land-based, which also pose a threat and they control several islands near the strait. Some of these anti-ship missiles have also likely been integrated on aircraft and helicopters.

Notice where Ray Mabus sits in the national chain of command. He is number 6 on the list. If the United States were to be hit by a massive nuclear 1st strike and everyone else on that list was killed instantly, perhaps while he was out to sea inspecting an aircraft carrier or something, Mabus would take control of all military operations under emergency circumstances. With all of the nukes at his disposal, both naval and air force as well as ground based missiles, it's not hard to imagine a horrific nuclear conflict probably between Russia and the remainder of the U.S. Navy. But Nostradamus states that "Mabus will soon die" and a terrible slaughter of both man and animals will take place. This type of scenario would suggest thermonuclear war.
Century 8, Quatrain 77
The Antichrist very soon annihilates three,
Twenty seven years of blood his war will last.
The heretics dead, the captives exiled,
Blood human bodies, water reddened with hail on the earth.
I wonder if the "three" that are annihilated mentioned in the first verse might be three aircraft carrier groups stationed in the Persian Gulf?
In the Bible Daniel explains at the beginning of chapter 7 that four beasts come up from the sea. The fourth beast has 10 horns and is very powerful with iron teeth who devours and stamps out any resistance. An 11th horn (little horn) then comes up after 10 horns, which most theologians agree is the antichrist, who plucks up three from the roots. Horns are always the symbol of power in the Bible. What is the most powerful military force in the world today? Undoubtably, it is the American aircraft carrier groups with their supporting ships and submarines, all having nuclear weapons at their disposal. Just one group could easily take out most countries that exist anywhere in the world today. Whether it has any bearing on the meaning of this passage or not, an interesting parallel exists here in that there are currently 11 operational carrier strike groups in the U.S. Navy. Could a rogue carrier group led by Ray Mabus, attack or capture 3 of their own, after he has committed a military coup, gone on a mutinous rampage and taken control causing or because of a nuclear exchange betwwen the U.S. and Russia?

After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.
8. I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.
24. And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.
However, the problem with this assessment is that, where it is not clear exactly what Daniel's "horns" or "kings" are, Nostradamus seems to be speaking about religion in verse 3 of C.8,Q.77 as he talks about the "unbelievers" being dead. Who are the unbelievers, though? Are they Muslims or Christians? Could this verse be referring to the destruction of three Islamic countries or leaders by the antichrist? Or is the antichrist a Muslim who annihilates three "infidel" powers? Nostradamus appears to suggest a nuclear attack by a navy on a seaport city somewhere in the world as he describes unspeakable terror within "dreadful globes".
Century 5, Quatrain 8
There shall be unleashed live fire and hidden death,
Inside dreadful globes, terrible and fearful.
By night the fleet shall shoot against the city,
The city on fire, favorable to the enemy.
