The United States are made up of 50 states, plus the U.S. territories such as Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Primaries are held by states and territories. The states are made up of counties or parishes. Precints in the counties vote. The votes are counted by the precinct judges and then each precint has a precinct convention where county convention delegates are chosen. Each precinct chairman and the elected county delegates from that precinct certify the vote and the precinct vote totals are reported to the county election coordinator. Each county then has a county convention. The state delegates are chosen at the county convention. Then the state has a state convention. The state delegates go to the state convention to report their county's vote totals. Then the state convention elects national delegates to go to the nation convention. The national delegates go to the national convention to report their vote totals. But here is the kicker. There is a wide variance to whether or not the national delegates chosen at the state convention have to vote like the general populace voted in their respective state. Many are give free reign to vote however they choose. It was set up that way in the beginning so that TPTB could override the will of the people and put whoever they wanted in office. The only thing is, the fat cats got lazy, and while they lay at home licking their whiskers on election day, the people decided to use their own rules against them. The Ron Paul people decided to show up at the precinct, county, and state conventions. There was more of them than stooges for the TPTB. So, RP delegates are being chosen to go to the national convention. Romney thought they had it in the bag. Think again. TPTB have one more ace up their sleeve though, it is called the Electoral College which works the same way as what I have just described, but on the national level. I don't know how the electors are chosen. Hence there is always discussion in each election about the difference between the "popular" vote and the vote of the electoral college. Stay tuned, it will be very interesting to see how this all plays out.
Pretty enlighten information, thanks.
Voting in the primaries counts for very little. The primary results are what you see reported in the news with the implication that Romney is winning. Note that voting in the primaries is usually done with Diebold electronic "black box" voting machines, which have been implicated in voter fraud in the last two elections in several states. What *really* matters is who shows up to be a delegate. The delegates make the decisions at the local, state, and national levels. Romney simply does not have enough popular support to swarm the delegate conventions like Paul supporters do.
As far I can see, Ron Paul seems to gather large number of people to watch and listen the guy in his speeches. Same over the internet, the support is just amazing. But when it comes to Romney, it seems that the 'crowd' following him is really low in comparison.
In the other hand, Romney wins a lot of primaries, and Paul support in those is the lowest.
Since I'm not in the US, following this whole thing is a bit confusing and sounds completely contradictory.
How come Romney wins the primaries but Paul get's apparently the vast majority of popular support?
I just want to know if you can honestly explain this to me.
