It's not literally "laugh out loud" funny, it's Ithe type of irony when someone has these great illusions of grandeur only to have reality bite them firmly in the ass, and are so humbled by the experience of being nothing they think they actually they are, fade into obscurity and taking a faaaar longer route to where they thought they were only because they thought they "had it", before they truly did.
