"A spiritual master respects the laws of destiny. This is why he generally does not intervene in the life of his disciples, even if he has the power to do so. All human beings have karmic debts to pay. They can pay them more or less quickly, but they must pay them, for no one escapes this law. In order to evolve, it is sometimes preferable to pay certain debts more quickly, and only in this case will a master agree to intervene in the life of his disciples. He does so in order to free them from circumstances which, like a gangue, entomb the great wellsprings of truth, wisdom and love within them. But he only does so for disciples who sincerely seek the light and are truly deserving, or it would do no good. A man with a cold heart and a dim intellect does not change, even when close to a master."
