"If people lack psychology to such an extent that they are not able to understand others, despite their desire to do so, it is because they remain too preoccupied with themselves. It is as if they are blinded by the veil of their own selfish lower nature, which is preventing them from making out what is happening in other people's heads or hearts. Even loving people do not manage to see through this veil. That is why they are also sometimes surprised by the changes they suddenly see in their wife, their husband, their children, their friends : changes they did not foresee and did not sense. Only those who can control their lower nature, and so are able to forget their own interests, can become good psychologists."
