For those who are interested - if not, read at your own displeasure.
Obviously, this is just my opinion based on what I followed in the media. I believe Sonnen must have been forced to throw the fight - and for so many possible reasons:
1. Sonnen received death threats for his disrespectful trash-talk directed at Silva and his whole country, Brazil. This, I believe, is why they moved the fight from Brazil to Las Vegas.
2. Dana White and his crew may have received death threats, which is why Dana was uncharacteristically slathering Silva with compliments in the post-fight conference as if he wanted to appease the Brazilian people. Who knows..it just didn't seem natural.
3. I believe Sonnen, knowing he had to throw the fight, dominated Silva for the entire first round just to prove a point - as if to say, here is what would have happened...
4. Joe Rogan may know the truth, which is why he purposely had a "slip of the tongue" after the first round when he said, "Dominant round for the champ....." then said "oh excuse me.......blah blah..." He knew that Sonnen had to throw the fight and he let everyone in TV land know he knew in his defiant, Joe Rogan style. Obviously he wants to keep his job, so he can't come right out and say it.
5. Sonnen's take-downs don't get stuffed[PERIOD] He acted like he was trying to take Silva down, then, after his "unsuccessful attempt," a haphazard fist-fight ensued, where Chael through a wild spinning back fist that looked like it was intended for someone 6'6" tall... he telegraphed it and had no real intention of landing it, in my opinion. Then he lands on his butt, stays there, like he's gassed or something (bad acting), and stares at Silva, as if to say, "Well what are you waiting for.....make your move."
As a UFC fan, I enjoyed watching the fights, especially when they didn't seem fixed. There have been a few fights in the past that everyone knew were fixed in some way for whatever reason, but this crap is starting to go the way of boxing. The UFC is getting too big now, and I guess it's time for the ignorant, brain-dead fan-base to take over. Eventually it will turn into the WWE.
Real UFC fans want to see real fights. We have so much doom going on in the world that it's nice to have an outlet like the UFC to get our minds temporarily redirected. I don't know why Sonnen was forced to throw the fight, but it's a darn shame that the real fans have to put up with such fakery.
Enjoy setting up your fake fights, UFC, and taking money from imbeciles who pay to watch them.
