[quote:Anonymous Coward 68710274:MV8xOTIwOTI1XzQ5NTcwNjU4XzI0REUzMDk0] GHB- Get Home Bag-could be very light weight with minimum of supplies+water+tennis shoes to get home. BOB-Bug Out Bag could be heavier but left in a closet at home or in a car trunk with other items+ heavier boots etc. How about diversifying-one at home and one in each vehicle ! INCH-I am Never Coming Home bag might have some of the same as a GHB or a BOB, and then some different things that might be of more value over a longer period. Any of them could have copies of important papers such as insurance, licenses-professional & driving, Social Security Cards, critical phone numbers, deeds, contracts, wills, etc. +a digital(encripted)thumb drive with the same info. A layered system can give you more security. One good full tang knife is 0 knife if lost. Two good full tang knives is 1 good knife if one is lost. So critical items need to be in each level. Three of some items is not too many. But as a "backpacker" since the 70's...my packs are much lighter now. Do you remember how many pairs of "spectacles"(Prince-Nez style) near sighted Teddy Roosevelt had on his person going up San Juan heights-Kettle Hill? ( ; ) Take what is essential- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_San_Juan_Hill Perhaps a fanny pack for Get Home bag+walking shoes + water. .. if you have to drop your Bug Out Bag and run...you still have essentials....even a weapon if for some reason you put down your Bug out Bag... A heavy duty contractor 55 gallon bag can be folded and protected in a zip lock and put in a fanny pack for a bivy sack for sleeping or as a "rain coat". If you are wet and in 60 degree F. with wind you can die of hypothermia. Bivouac sack https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bivouac_sack Wool is heavy but can maintain some body heat when wet. [/quote]

I believe everyone should have an EDC/GHB (every day carry/get home bag) bag on or near there person at all times. I have been carrying around some form of backpack with basic gear for about 20 years or so and it has proven a great asset numerous times. The communication, transportation, Medical, police, and power infrastructure we rely on everyday will be the first things that go down in any sort of large emergency scenario. If an emergency happens regardless of how big or small having a few tools and supplies will come in very handy and might just save your life or the lives of others.
In this post I will describe the inventory of my EDC backpack and try to give some description as to why I choose to carry each item. The complete backpack weighs in at around 15 pounds and i have tried to keep it as light and small as possible. I have also picked a normal looking school bag instead of the popular “tactic-cool” Molle covered bags that are just going to draw unwanted attention. If I leave it in the car when I run into a store i want it to blend in an look like every other school bag out there. Stealth is key.
I am not endorsing any brands or saying you need any or all these items. Most of these items can be found cheaply or replaced with anything similar or not carried at all depending on personal preference. This is just a list of stuff that I think could be useful in any type of emergency use. I will try to keep it simple and short
. If you have any questions or suggestions feel free to ask. And I would like to know
what is in your bag and why do you carry it?
