[quote:Anonymous Coward 22687793:MV8xOTIzMjI0XzM1NTQ3MTkyXzU5NzkwMkY5] Well, as the comedian Pete Barbutti used to say, Scranton is where old elephants go to die. Summary for people who don't know: during construction in the '50s or '60s they dug up these huge bones. They thought they found some old dinosaur. Paleontologists were brought in. Then some old timer remembered and pointed to old news stories. Seems that back around 1910 or 1920 the circus came to Scranton. During its time there one of the elephants died. They didn't know what to do with the body, so they stuck it in one of the old coal mines around town and sealed it off. And everyone forgot about it until it was "discovered" 40 or 50 years later. ] All city employees forced to take a drastic wage cut to minimum wage. Now at poverty level, firefighters, cops, ect. now qualify for food stamps. Also, 2 more cities in Ca. are also broke.
