[quote:Waterbug:MV8xOTM4MzA4XzMyNDcxOTc4X0U2M0YxNDAz] http://www.fukushima311watchdogs.org/biblio/24/Cesium-137%20_english.pdf [snip] Cesium-137 is also a major source of radioactive contamination during reactor accidents. It is a concern because its life is long and travels easily through the food chain while continuing to emit its radiation. Of cesium atoms involved in cycle plant, entering the plant through the roots and returning to land when the plant dies. In the environment, cesium is much less mobile such as iodine. In an accident, usually carried by the water vapor is deposited on the ground with rain. Set by minerals, it remains in the soil surface. Chemically close to the potassium, it is found especially in forest litter after being intercepted by the foliage. The mycelium, part of the perennial mushroom that grows a few centimeters below the soil surface, trap cesium (as a trap, in addition, pesticides). It can concentrate in the food chain, for example in the flesh of fish or game. Clay environments are effective in fixing Cs. :mutant: [/quote]

According to a translation posted by Energy News, Dr.Yury Bandazhevsky of Belarus examined the people exposed to radiation and the people who had died of Chernobyl and clinically identified the association between Cesium radiation and cardiac disease.

Caesium-137 levels in children's organs were examined at autopsy. The highest accumulation of Cs-137 was found in the endocrine glands, in particular the thyroid, the adrenals and the pancreas. High levels were also found in the heart, the thymus and the spleen.
