[quote:Anonymous Coward 6598407:MV8xOTU0MTU2XzMyNzYzNTk0Xzg4MzBFRjc0] [quote:Anonymous Coward 21267328:MV8xOTU0MTU2XzIwOEU1OTVF] I live on the West Coast and I have noticed a dramatic increase in the price of eggs, just in the past week. I was paying about $3.00 for two dozen regular white eggs and the price jumped to $5.00 per two dozen. At one of my favorite groceries they had a printout on the egg case that explained the increase, citing the drought and the rising cost of feed, as well as a large avian flu problem in western Mexico. I came home and tried to search the internet for more info, and couldn't find info on the current situation. My question to you all, has anyone else noticed their food costs rising...??
Food costs are going up and will continue to increase indefinitely. This is because the price of petroleum is going up - for both actual market reasons and completely artificial ones. Pretty much everything we eat is dependent on petroleum. The fertilizers used to grow the feed are based on petroleum. The vehicles used to transport the eggs use petroleum. Hell, even the hormones and antibiotics used on the chickens are synthesized from organic compounds extracted from petroleum. Etc. Until we convert to a viable alternative energy economy, this trend will continue. And we will continue to become poorer as we purchase fewer and fewer goods.
