They are hard to beat. Alsatian is very similar. But for the cute factor, there is this to consider. Will alert you to anything within a block with ceasless yapping, guaranteed. Then YOU can deal with the intruder. :CodyTrickTreat:
A German Shepherd is an Alsatian the breed is known by different names in different countries. What is the difference between an Alsatian and a German Shepherd Dog? What is the true difference between an Alsatian and a German Shepherd Dog, if any? Let me assure you that there is no difference. http://www.total-german-shepherd.com/Alsatian.html German Shepherd Dog (Alsatian) (Deutscher Schaferhund) http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/germanshepherd.htm
I've noticed people in the UK sometimes refer to the English lines as "Alsatians", dunno why? Though you are right, an Alsatian is a German Shepherd. GSD has my vote, here's one of mine! :whiteshep:
I just uploaded a photograph taken last week of my Anatolian Shepherd he is getting to be a rather large dog and his rough coat makes him quite cute. People are drawn to him because of his size and looks and if properly “introduced” no problem otherwise they retreat quickly when he barks. Will update this post when the image is approved.
Goodie, you know I love your doggie :hf: How tall/heavy is he now?
I have always appreciated German Shepherd dogs and as a child, we had several as my father liked Alsatian dogs and thought that German Shepherds looked a lot like them. It took a great deal of effort to make him understand that it was the same breed and he did purchase several but I doubt he ever truly understood different countries different names and note that my father grew up in the British colony of Barbados.
It's interesting how many do insist that they are considered a different breed. I have even seen German Shepherd breeders argue for a split though, SO...there is a bit of truth to it I guess. They are the same breed, but perhaps a deviation in physical appearance since the English lines tend to have a straighter appearance versus the German show dogs. BTW, your doggie is really handsome! I like his coloring a lot.
Original Message
Looking to get a dog to train as guard dog. I'm already leaning towards a German Shepard. No Pitbulls or Rottweilers, but would consider a exotic breed. Any suggestions?
