[quote:Anonymous Coward 20864437:MV8xOTc2OTEwXzMzMjE4Njc5X0MzMjZDNUQ1] [quote:Mandevilla:MV8xOTc2OTEwXzMzMjE4Mzc2XzU1NTIxQUFG] Thanks! We have talked about raised beds since the tiller is an issue and we have tons of leaves and grass cuttings, etc., so we'll most likely go ahead with that, too. I don't know why I find this so exciting. Maybe it's my sinus pill! LOL Seriously, nothing is better than home-grown food.
It is much easier to dump the clippings in the garden then bag them and hall them to the street. Just do it in the fall before the winter and let it sit over winter. You may have to add a couple of inches of top soil for seeds if the compost is not completely turned into soil in the spring. I did this with corn one year. I planted corn into the sheet mulch raised garden and also in the ground as an experiment. equal amounts of water. The corn in the compost was a foot taller then the corn in the ground. The only problem was the compost soil was to loose to hold the corn up and I had to stake the stalks of corn but they did grow well. On the other hand tomatoes, peppers, squash and other plants grow well in the compost.
if we just planted more fruit bearing trees in streets/sidewalks/parks/etc ...
if there were strawberries, cherries, lettuce, in abundance everywhere ...
we probably don't even have to work.
