Our corrupt socialist left govt has given the green light for legislation to proceed requiring ISP's to keep customers online data for 2 years - just in case the cops need it to prosecute your ass.
Guess who's paying for it? .........
Nicola Roxon backflip gives green light for online spying
ATTORNEY-General Nicola Roxon has reversed her position on online spy laws today, backing plans for ISPs to store user data for up to two years.
In a speech at the Security Government conference in Canberra, Ms Roxon said that law enforcement authorities needed to be able to collect user data in order to be better able to target criminals.
"Many investigations require law enforcement to build a picture of criminal activity over a period of time," Ms Roxon said.
"Without data retention, this capability will be lost.
"The intention behind the proposed reform is to allow law enforcement agencies to continue investigating crime in light of new technologies.
"The loss of this capability would be a major blow to our law enforcement agencies and to Australia's national security."
The Attorney -General's comments stand in stark contrast to reported comments earlier in the year where she doubted the effectiveness of the proposed measures.
