[quote:rup:MV8xOTk1MTEyXzMzNTE0NjM2XzE0OEUwRENE] i have been diagnosed with schizophrenia since i was 19 years old ... i have an iq of 170 ... mental illness and mental aptitude have nothing to do with each other ... the people who stereotype everyone with mental illnesses as lacking in intelligence are pretty much revealing their own lack of intelligence, knowledge on the subject, or their own slavery to the labeling which is branded on people like me by movies, etc ... i have a college degree and have been successful in life in all realms despite the struggles i have encountered ... of course, if i didnt take medication to control my symptoms it would be a different story ... just for the record, i am also nearly blind now due to a rare macular disease, and i am writing this with the help of a device which enables me to express myself thru typing ... i am not in any way implying that the OP or anyone in this thread is included in the ignorance squad i cited above, or that they do not know the difference between a mental illness and someone who is mentally retarded ... yes, i vote, and despite my handicaps i am probably more informed than most in reaching my choices, and more eloquent in expressing myself about these issues than most "normal" people [/quote]
Original Message
Someone asked me the other night and I didn't know.
I thought it might be a good topic for discussion on GLP.
I don't care who you think they will or will not vote for, I just wonder if they are alowed to vote?
Are there any IQ restrictions or restrictions against mentally challenged or even insane people? People with all sorts of mental disorderes? Which ones are allowed to vote and which ones are not? Or can anyone vote regarless of IQ and mental stability?
Also, what percentage of the voting population are these people?
This is
not a thread to hate
on mentally challenged people or people with mental illness, just a thread to discuss their voting rights.
Please keep your hateful comments to a minimum
.
Thanks
