Original Message These alerts will be sent only to those in the immediate threat area. I assume so as not to create mass panic. The alert types are as follows:

Presidential (Mandatory)
Severe and Extreme threat alerts
Amber Alerts

The alerts are created by our government and sent via Verizon Wireless service.
An alert was recently sent out to people in several New Jersey counties and freaked people out for about an hour wondering why they were being told to take shelter immediately. Unfortunately, the alert was not clearly noted as a test. Big Surprise, right?!!!
