[quote:Esoteric Morgan:MV8yMDAxODA4XzMzNjI4ODA5XzU0MzA5QTgw] [quote:Redpaw360:MV8yMDAxODA4XzMzNjI4MjQ0XzQzN0FBNkVG] Can I ask a question?. If yes, please continue reading. Why would we sign a petition asking for the federal government to step in?. Do any of you remember how the federal government handled hurricane Andrew?, Hurricane Katrina, the current drought?.... My neighbor works for FEMA under a subcontractor, he regularly states that they will never be able to properly close Katrina damage due to bureaucracy of triplicate paperwork, lost files, false claims, incompetence, employee turnover, bad consulting firms. .....the Feds can't even manage the post office, and you want them to handle a sinkhole and gas release? Color me jaded, but I'd rather have anyone else step in.
[quote:Anonymous Coward 11193121:MV8yMDAxODA4XzMzNjI4MjcyXzgxMzQ1MDE5] I would sign if I could be obviously cant. Your petition is a great idea but it can't stop the coming disaster. It can't. Move out of the area. My dad now retired worked in the industry for years. He was a specialist for problems. He's a total brain. Worked all over Canada and the middle east. He says that whole area is a ticking time bomb. They don't have the Technology to fix this. Its way beyond the norms. The ground is collasping all around the area. The gas is travelling where it finds least resistance and can move HUNDREDS OF MILES underground. The pressure of all the gas is too great. Its shattering the ground and causing seismic anomolies. He says he is surprised they haven't began to evacuate people from the area. There is a big gas field there and the whole thing could potentially go up and rip the US a new asshole. It would incompass 200 square miles or more. It would change the whole East Coast forever. I trust what my dad had to say on the topic. Some of my family members are snowbirds and go to Yuma every winter. NONE are going this year. Dad told everybody to stay at home. He says this is bad. Really Bad. He says its a ticking time bomb and that its not IF it will go up its WHEN. God bless and get the hell out of there.
I think you are both missing the point. First of all, the petition is not OP's...he has graciously posted this thread, so as many people as possible will be able to sign the petition on behalf of Louisiana residents in danger. The point of the petition is to force the government to address this situation in a proper manner, as the residents in the area are not being given proper information, and are largely being ignored. Meanwhile, as the petition circulates, there is a greater propensity for this issue to get discussed to a much wider audience. What's happening in Louisiana may seem like a local issue, but, drilling and fracking and all sorts of assaults on our environment are happening every day, ALL OVER THIS COUNTRY, putting the lives of people in danger. As there is no precedent for handling such a debacle, forcing the government's hand to do a proper, wide-range study, can be a benefit for the handling of future disasters. So....sign the petition. What harm can it do? Please. Who knows when something similar will be approaching your own backdoor? :cool2: .
