I've seen that map, have no idea where it originated from. Doesn't surprise me that it would end up in this thread, but just the same...you, being in Australia, may see this thread as being the same tired old b/s, but those of us that live near the New Madrid are watching all of this pretty closely.
I have no issues with people watching stuff- I have even less issues with people living near active faults informing themselves... I just have issues with people actively bullshitting people- be it from ignorance (bad enough) or from actively misleading people(like many glp posters do) but dredging up stuff from a quarter of a century ago and posting it as `new' Excuse me if I see anyone who doesn't know how to use a search engine before they post as a little `lacking intellectually- and when information to the contrary is shown to exist, then its becomes not just a little lacking- but a lot, and lazy to boot... sadly sadly (most) of the glp posters fall into that category...
Ahhh! Shill alert! You are obviously connected to a business venture here concerning our own salt domes - hope you heed the warnings, but alas you greedy shills have no concern for the future of our children. That's so sad.
Reed is a retired geologist who studied oil formations in the Gulf of Mexico. Oversimplified, his theory says a crack in the North American tectonic plate runs from Louisiana through New Madrid to the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Seismic activity in the western Gulf of Mexico would directly affect the New Madrid area

I live in Ripley County Missouri right at 100 miles from New Madrid. I am very concerned about the connection this Sink Hole may have on the New Madrid Fault.
The Macondo well that was drilled by BP is located at the tail end of the New Madrid fault.
this is a major problem for us.
The only thing missing now would be a trigger. If a trigger comes, then there will be an eruption of the fault line, which could also allow for the Gulf of Mexico sea floor to collapse and sink, thus lowering the sea level of the New Madrid fault region. This would cause massive flooding, which would also include tsunamis caused by the enormous earthquakes that would occur.
