Original Message I've paid close attention to him since he won the Senate seat. He is an electrifying speaker but only that -- he can read lines but can't think on his feet and his overall knowledge about the world is superficial.

For instance, during the 2008 campaign, he seemed to believe that the United States still keeps B-52s on standby in case of nuclear attack. When he was in office, he said that it was a good time to buy stocks because of the "profit and earnings ratios" -- a slick-sounding admission of economic illiteracy.

His debate performance was no surprise because he was confronted with a much more intelligent person who has succeeded because of his wit and his skills, not because he was handed everything he has.

In the next debate, the format obviously will be rigged in Obama's favor -- the audience of so-called "independent voters" will be packed with skilled operatives culled from Democrat party-allied war rooms. They and the moderator, Candy Crowley, will strive desperately to prop up Obama and throw Romney off his stride.
