I swear, some things that I buy have doubled in the past year alone. I didn't even have a cart full, mostly fruits, vegetables, some fresh shrimp, cereals, spices, rice, etc.. My tab was $286!
Its crazy. I find meat the very worst. I can hardly afford Chicken, Beef or Pork. The prices have gone through the roof.
Make more soup, stews and casseroles with the meat. It will go further. Plus you can cook these in quantities and freeze them for 'fast' food later on in the week/month. You will save money and time and still eat better and stay full.
^ This^ My ten year old keeps asking me to make another 'surprise rice' dish that I whipped up two weeks ago from leftover rice, frozen pigeon peas, and 2 leftover chicken thighs topped with leftover mozzarella. She doesn't realize that wasn't planned beforehand! That surprise rice pot fed seven...and some even had seconds! :girl_happy_brown:
That's great! Leftovers keep me sane(not having to cook all the time) and everybody loves them. I suppose that is how many dishes we love these days were created. Just throw leftovers together and see what you get.LOL
1st thing I noticed, my wife and I have hardly changed anything about our buying and eating habits.
The 2nd thing I noticed was the crazy incrases we have had in prices.
1 can Campbells Vegetable soup was listed as $0.89
We now pay $2.19 for the same can.
Fresh Haddock Fillets were $3.99lb. Now $7.99lb.
4 litres of Skim Milk was $4.59...now $7.59.
1 loaf of whole wheat bread was $.99...now $2.99.
Fresh Green Pepper was $1.99lb...now $3.99lb.
Canned tomato juice was $0.99 a can...now $2.29 a can.
Obviously there was waaaaay more on the recipt, but I just can't believe the inflation. I'm sure many people have had to stop buying items the are used to buying, and change their life styles a great deal. I have not gotten to that point yet, but I'm feeling the pinch. It sucks.
Changes are needed.
