They keep looking for round about methods, instead of just controlling the emotion. As thoughts control emotions and if we control our thoughts, then we can control our emotions. There are many methods to achieve this and it does take practice, but so does everything worth while.
Everyone is different and some people find it very difficult to control emotions. They are overwhelming at times. Do you meditate? That too takes thought control, but many people cant do that either because the mind wont be silenced (or the ego). So we look for alternative ways to heal
They find it difficult because they don't practice enough. At the moment I do not meditate, but I'm looking back into it, to gain more focus. Honestly I control my emotions by just thinking, it's much easier then most people think. Nearly anything can be accomplished with enough time and practice. I speak from experience, I had suffered depression, social anxiety etc for decades thinking I had to feel these emotions. It wasn't a mild form depression as I've attempted to take my life nearly 1/2 a dozen times in my mid twenties, one left me in intensive care for a week. When I turned 28 I had either a telepath or psychotic break so I now have a voice in my head that consistently tries to push emotions and shakes me. No meds, just the power of my own will and mind. If I can control these emotions, any one can, they just have to practice. Granted my voice pushed me to excel at this by forcing me to practice, but anyone can gain near complete control over their emotions with practice. The main thing I've learned, is it's much easier to control these emotions then to feel them consistently. I'll add in a disclaimer however, we feel these emotions for a reason. So feel them long enough to gain the understanding from this experience before casting it aside.
