Original Message I decided to do a Tarot reading around 12:30pm today, 10/19/2012, using a modified version of the Celtic Cross using 11 cards for one of our favorite running politicians!:

Willard Mitt Romney

People used to the traditional spread will have to take into account these modified positions that I use which work best for me (it hasn't failed me yet.)
I shuffled the deck at least 11 times (approximately) using near casino-style shuffling, 3 cuts, with some rotations of the cut packs, etc. But enough about that.
I never choose a Significator anymore, but let the deck do it.

So without further ado, here are the cards:
(This is using the tHOTH Tarot deck.)
Powerful stuff.

1.) 7 of Cups (Debauch)
This one is great. I knew the reading was going to be interesting after seeing just this card. This is basically a card representing corruption. How fitting! Go look up the word if you want (addiction to sensual pleasures, etc.) You know, something you would want your President to embrace!

debauch
verb [ trans. ]
destroy or debase the moral purity of; corrupt.
noun
a bout of excessive indulgence in sensual pleasures, esp. eating and drinking.

2.) Prince of Wands [reversed]
I don't use reversed cards in the way that others usually might, meaning I don't reverse the actual meaning of the card. Sometimes it hints to me that these qualities may be some that are more flexible or necessary for change, etc. Here are a few good quotes on this card.

"..lacking the patience of the earth, the Prince of Wands wants it all and he wants it now.."
"..he can be a juggler and trickster, wanton and frolic, recklessly abusing the powers of his mind to fool and ridicule the slow and harmless.."
"..all his attributes can exaggerate to their worst, resulting in reckless destruction and even in cruelty and sadism. His impatience can mount into instability, always seeking for novelty without getting anything done, with all his powers burning out unused.."

Debauchery, trickery, and potentially reckless destruction. Yay!

3.) Adjustment (VIII)
This is the crossing card of the matter. Looks like he needs a little "adjustment" in some areas. Not really surprised!

4.) 4 of Wands (Completion) [reversed]
For this position (which is right underneath the other 3 (I deal cards 4, 5, 6, and 7 clockwise around the first 3 cards) and this represents a more subconscious / mental issue. Completion of the election cycle no doubt. This card moves up toward card 6 to form a line representing mental influence, basically subconscious to conscious. I will list card number SIX next, so you can see the link here.

6.) 5 of Disks (Worry)
Worry about the election? I don't think I need to add anymore to this. It seemed pretty obvious.

5.) The Aeon (XX)
This card was formerly Judgement (with Rider-Waite). This line going across from cards 5 to 7 represent a more physical and "doing" aspect. Not so much in the mind, but more active and physical. This card represents new things, change, hope, transformation, etc. There are a lot of meanings. Very fitting for an election.

7.) 10 of Cups (Satiety) [reversed]
This card speaks for itself, it represents completion and satisfaction, but more on an emotional level. It is reversed so maybe it is not definite? I would take this reversal to mean that satiety is not necessarily guaranteed, especially if other aspects are ignored.

8.) 7 of Wands (Valour)
This position represents how he sees himself. this is a fire card and kind of speaks of the ego a bit. It means that there is threat, or endangered position. I think this goes very well with Satiety being reversed. this card also means hard assignment, difficulties, and taking a risk, among other things.

9.) Prince of Cups
This card position represents how others see him. This prince is very Watery, which is passive. He can be open to influence, and easily changed. Not always bad, but for person in his position (and in this spread) it could be dangerous. He flip-flops a lot in the media (this is obvious) and this is almost the perfect card to represent that here, I think. This card can also represent hiding of secrets in some cases.

Some quotes (not by me):

"..he appears introverted and reversed, and indeed he tends to keep his secrets to himself.."
"..he seems to be easily susceptible.."
"..he can be quite shifty in dealings.."

10.) 10 of Disks (Wealth)
This position is the standard Celtic Cross position that represents hopes and fears. It says his hopes are more wealth. So fitting. I think this one speaks for itself.

11.) Ace of Cups
This represents the whole of the Water cards. Emotional fulfillment, etc. It is a great card. But again, it does not guarantee success (no spread does), especially if the message(s) in the rest of the cards is completely ignored. Look at the reversed cards, and the Trumps, such as Adjustment (VIII). Without adjustment, this card may not come to pass..

I drew an extra 12th card to clarify the matter a little bit more. The result was the 2 of Disks (Change). I think this emphasized the importance of the crossing card, Adjustment (VIII), if anything.

Adding up the value of all of the cards, the Quintessence, resulted in: 72

This reduces to 9, as 7+2=9. This represents The Hermit (IX) as as addition to this spread. Consulting what is written in a book (Keywords for the Crowley Tarot) about this value for the quintessence has the following:

"Retreat within yourself to find out what you really want. Don't let yourself be influenced."

Pretty interesting stuff, especially Debauch, Prince of Wands, Worry, and Wealth.

I thought this was a very fitting spread. It isn't bad (none of them really ever are), but there are some obvious warnings, or things to consider.

Any comments?
