Why people attack someone who says something they disagree with...

this is my opinion... I realize I will be attacked for it.
The way the human mind works is
1. When information is gained from a source, the first thing people ask themselves is... does this information agree with what I already know/believe? If it does, they then mentally label the source of the information as 'more credible.' And do nothing else.
2. If the information does not agree with what the already know/believe, then they look to how credible the source of the information is. If the source of information is not credible, the information is dismissed.
However, if the source of information IS CREDIBLE they have two options...
1. Change their beliefs. Which is a hard, painful, grueling process that requires a lot of thought and risk and pain.
2. Destroy the source's credibility. And then dismiss the information. A.K.A. attack the person. Call them stupid, a shill, liar, etc.
And so people usually choose option two.
