1663 Charlevoix earthquake. The 1663 Charlevoix earthquake occurred on February 5, 1663 in the Canadian province of Quebec, and was assessed to have a moment magnitude of between 7.3 and 7.9.[1] The earthquake occurred at 5:30 p.m. local time and was estimated to have a maximum perceived intensity of X (Intense) on the Mercalli intensity scale. The main shock epicentre is suggested to have occurred along the Saint Lawrence River,[2] between the mouth of the Malbaie River on the north and the mouth of the Ouelle River on the south. A large portion of eastern North America felt the effects. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1663_Charlevoix_earthquake Largest Earthquake in New York Between Massena, New York and Cornwall, Ontario, Canada 1944 09 05 04:38:45.7 UTC (Local 09/04) Magnitude 5.80 This severe earthquake was felt from Canada south to Maryland and from Maine west to Indiana. It caused property damage estimated at $2 million at Massena and Cornwall. Many chimneys in that area required rebuilding, and several structures were unsafe for occupancy until repaired. Residents of St. Lawrence County reported that many water wells went dry. http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/states/events/1944_09_05.php Largest Earthquake in New Jersey New Jersey 1783 11 30 03:50 UTC (Local 11/29) Magnitude 5.30 1812 New Madrid earthquake The 1811–1812 New Madrid earthquakes /nuː ˈmædrɨd/ were an intense intraplate earthquake series beginning with an initial pair of very large earthquakes on December 16, 1811. These earthquakes remain the most powerful earthquakes to hit the eastern United States in recorded history. There are estimates that the earthquakes were felt strongly over roughly 130,000 square kilometers (50,000 sq mi), and moderately across nearly 3 million square kilometers (1 million square miles). The historic 1906 San Francisco earthquake, by comparison, was felt moderately over roughly 16,000 km2 (6,200 sq mi).
:hiding::hiding::hiding:
Just something to keep an eye on. I read somewhere that there was some discussion of a series of possible quakes from the St. Lawerence River...New Madrid...Mid-Atlantic Ridge, like dominos. Over the past few months there has been quite a bit more activity in the East and North east than we have seen in the past.
