Unfortunately, I had to do some field exercise as an NCO, and was assigned a group of marines, allegedly infantry.

When it came to the land navigation exercises, and I was telling them to show me re-section and intersection to find their position on the map,  they just gave me that deer in the headlight look. (They had no idea what I meant)

Then I was supervising a mortar crew, (81mm and 4.2 inch) and they had no idea what to do when it came to cutting charges.

I was not impressed with them. They did a lot of oooh rahhing and all that like monkeys, but their infantry skills were sorely lacking.

Just how it was.I needed a stiff drink after dealing with them all day. It was like Special education.

I can't speak for infantry, I was a Artillery Radar Operator and everyone on in my section was very well trained and knew exactly what needed to be done.  These guys that were allegedly infantry didn't happen to be reservists did they?

It's been ten years since I got out but, when I was in, all the active duty guys were good to go and well trained.  They knew their duties inside and out.  The reservists on the other hand acted exactly as you stated above...

Original Message Is it wrong of me to think that 3 pull ups is about 7 pull ups short of being a challenge? I mean, these guys are marines, bull balls eating marines!
