Ok, if that was a problem, why wasn't the gas shut off & neighbors made aware? My daughters neighbor has gas, she does not. Her home has a carbon monoxide reader, because her neighbor had a gas leak. All the surrounding neighbors were made aware, and installed readers. My point: If it was bad enough to make them rent a hotel room...this would have been known by neighbors. It's just common sense.
Just FYI (in the interests of safety) a carbon monoxide reader is of no use in a gas leak.
been following since beginning of thread. this article brings several questions to mind. who was called to inspect the furnace and when? why was the gas not shut off to the residence? according to the utility co., no calls were made to them. I'm certain that arson investigators will be checking into these claims as well as personal finances of these people. were they behind on payments? was house for sale? it would be interesting to know what they took to motel with them.did they take personal records or keepsakes? I truly hope it wasn't a case of arson.
The 1st thing I thought of was the house filling up w/ gas. The trigger could of been a fridge kicking on or anything that emits a small spark. Bad furnace...lazy HVAC guy...big house...big BOOM. Or it coulda been the aliens, who knows.
not sure what newer furnaces are like but mine had a pilot light. if the situation caused enough concern to go to motel you would think that they would have taken measures to at least have the gas shut off. wonder if any other appliances like cook stove or dryer
Original Message
Maybe 20-30 minutes ago? Felt like a car crashed HARD into the house... went outside and all the neighbors were coming out reporting the same. It was LOUD and gave the house a JOLT.
Then family members started calling to ask if it happened here too (they are also in S or SE Indianapolis).
Anyone else? I looked but didn't see a thread and nothing on the local news yet...
