I wonder how many new police commissioners named Mohammed just got elected last night.
London already has a Met Police Commissioner, this vote was for everywhere else.
Is his name Mohammed?
Nope its Bernard Hogan-Howe
Polls closed tonight after the first elections to select police and crime commissioners across England and Wales.
Despite David Cameron heralding them as 'historic' elections, the vote was branded a 'comedy of errors' by the Electoral Reform Society, which claimed polling stations had been 'standing empty'.
One Tory MP told MailOnline: '‘I have been telling my constituents not to vote. This is an appalling bloody travesty costing £75million. I have not met anyone who is voting.’
In Wiltshire, the only area due to declare a result overnight, it was reported that barely one in seven electors had made it to the booths in Swindon.
Turnout in the town was just 14.68 per cent. It was even lower at nearby Devizes at 10.41 per cent.
In the most radical shake-up of the service for half a century, the new commissioners, who are expected to earn up to £100,000 a year, will control police budgets, set priorities and have the power to hire and fire Chief Constables.
