One shot with a large caliber round and the deer will look at you and charge. I'm not discounting large caliber though, just saying it might not be practical in a real world shithole. With a .22 you can snipe four deer and the one left over wont even flinch. As long as you can shoot. There's no sound. In a tactical scenario you want stealth above all else. You think you'll go toe to toe with another armed person but in reality you will shit your panties first. The most effective fighting force on earth is the tactical sniper who remains hidden. I shot a deer two days ago in Michigan with a 7mm from about 80 yards. It knocked the deer onto it side and instantly killed it. My ears are still ringing. And my 7mm was about $1400 dollars. The .22 would have done the same job (almost) at a fraction of the price. With the semi auto I could have put 4 rounds in it before it even jumped. Yea there'd be some tracking, but you'd still have food for a month. A two legged deer would go down much easier. It's all about shot placement. [/quote]

In my opinion, you can't beat an H&R Pardner 12 gauge coupled with a EAA Witness .45 ACP/.22lr Combo. You get essentially two high quality handguns and a 12 gauge pump-action for what you'd expect to pay for just one big-name pistol. Btw, Tanfoglio (EAA in America) supplies many military and police in many countries and have been around since the 40's making high quality firearms.
For those on low budgets, that's a lot of firepower for not so much money. No I'm not a dealer or have any financial interest in providing the info. Just sharing thoughts on good value for the money in firearms.
