There is a difference between humans as a species surviving December 21, 2012, and humans as a civilization surviving December 21, 2012.
I hope you understand the difference between humans as a species and humans as a civilization...
December 21, 2012 is NOT the "end of the world", because Planet Earth will not explode. The planet will still exist, and will keep orbiting the Sun.
December 21, 2012 is NOT the "end of all life in Earth". Life as a whole won't be extinct. A few species, maybe, but most species will survive.
December 21, 2012 is NOT even the "end of the human species". The species homo sapiens will not be exinct. Thousands of members of the species homo sapiens will survive.
December 21, 2012 is just THE END OF CIVILIZATION. Goodbye civilization. Hello barbarism!
Human civilization is a very recent phenomenon, compared to the age of Planet Earth. And it will be a very short lived phenomenon...
