Original Message One day I was having a chat with my wife about domestic violence (there had been an incident in our extended family), and I realized that for me - as a male - it would be easier to forgive infidelity than getting hit by her. I've always hated the double standard in movies where women slapping men is seen as humorous or justified. A man hitting woman is an abomination, but domestic violence towards men is not justified either.

Cheating is, of course, inexcusable, but for me a one-night stand would be easier to forgive than a slap in the face (or worse).

And no, I am not projecting "my own desire to cheat on her". For me, hitting your spouse is the ultimate betrayal of trust and if I ever did it to her, I couldn't live with myself anymore. Cheating is bad, but for me the difference is a bit like the difference between shooting someone and stealing all his property. You can't take the bullet back and fix the injuries as if they never existed, whereas property can always be returned or compensated for.

I can see how a marriage can be salvaged after a problem with infidelity, but I don't see how it could work anymore once someone gets beaten.
