[quote:Anonymous Coward 9014106:MV8yMDU2NDIyXzM0NTc4NjAxXzY4MzJGMDU0] Wow, doesn't sound too good. Is he actually psychotic - like paranoid and/or not making good sense? Because, it's not good to leave him like that if so. Also, does he seem to be getting better or worse, and how much sleep does he average a night? If he's getting better with time, maybe he'll come out of it, but if getting worse, something needs to be done. I've had issues with my daughter and found a good night's sleep is essential to her mental well being. With her, I've found a very small amount of anti-psychotic is all that is needed. About one tenth of what they would give in hospital. I know your son has reacted badly to olanzapine, but on a very small dosage (2.5 mg or less, there is no weight gain, minimal antipsychotic effect - but still has a strong sedative action and also helps prevents psychosis.) Also, on tablets, you can then take your time and wean him off yourself over an extended period of time by cutting them up yourself. By the way, there is no need to make your next appointment. You can easily postpone a while by citing ill health or other. [/quote]
My son is no longer on any medication for schizophrenia (he is supposed to be on injections of clopixol fortnightly but it didn't change anything so I haven't taken him for his injections for the last month). He is on a low dose of Lithium for bipolar but his only 2 bad habits these days is constantly talking to himself out loud & not sleeping at regular times. I don't want him medicated again but we have a psychiatrist appointment on the 28th & if I can't find a way to stop this then they will put him back on psych meds as he is court ordered until the 18th of January. We eat well & I have him on fish oil, B complex, magnesium & zinc. He has put on about 20kg's in 6 months from the psych meds & has no desire to do ANYTHING at all!!
