However notice here, Jesus is using specific names, Lazarus and Abraham, giving evidence that this is not merely a parable. Luke 16:19-31 19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’ 25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’ 27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ 29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’ 30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ 31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”
Interesting, could you expand on that please.
Let me touch upon another topic, that supports these scriptures. And that's near death experiences. So, are these experiences merely based on the person's beliefs and imaginations? I say no, due to these cases. There are NDE cases, in which the person will go to heaven, and sees the deceased. Now, the person, will learn of information from these deceased that was previously unknown and impossible to know about. But after returning to their bodies, this information is verified to be true down to the exact details. For example a little girl was taken out of her body, and to heaven. Here she met a murdered boy, who was now in heaven. She learned a lot of information about this boy. After returning to her body, she shared this information with her family. Even her family didn't know about this, and then decided to research this information. And found, the little girl, was right and correct, down to the specific details about this murdered boy, she saw who was no residing in heaven. This shows the NDE experience was not imagined. With that said, in these NDE cases, I know of 4 specific cases like these. All 4, in their NDE experiences, confirmed the existence of heaven, hell, and Jesus. In addition 2 of these 4, saw the 4 living creatures, as described in no other religion, except Christianity, and specifically in the book of Ezekial.
Ok, but there are thousands of years of history in the bible, with countless stories, prophesies etc, but not one of them ever mentions anyone from heaven that has also been on earth?
This is one possible explanation: Following His crucifixion, and prior to His resurrection, Christ Jesus descended to a place in Hades (the underworld) known as Abraham's Bosom or Paradise. This is where the soul and spirit of Old Testament saints were being held captive awaiting atonement of their sin debt. Jesus' purpose in going to Abraham's Bosom was to proclaim victory over sin and death; to set the captives free.1 Forty days later, when He ascended to heaven, Christ Jesus took the soul and spirit of these Old Testament saints to heaven with Him; Paradise is now in heaven.2 At a future date in time, their body, soul and spirit will once more be reunited at the resurrection spoken of in the Old Testament book of Daniel.3 Bible References: 1 (Luke 16:19-26; 1 Peter 4:6) 2 (Ephesians 4:8; 2 Corinthians 12:2-4) 3 ( Daniel 12:1-2) http://www.biblepath.com/questions/answer31.html
Why is it when people die in the bible there is no mention of them ever going to heaven or meeting god?
Let me give you an example.
Take Noah for instance, he dies and thats it, you never hear from him again, theres no mention of him being in heaven or going to heaven, and Christ never mentions any of the people who have died as being in heaven with god either.
So what happens to us when we die?
When god limited our years and took immortality away, did he really mean for us to die, and never return go to heaven etc etc?
