.... Or Asia, or india, or where ever they originated from
The captivity of apes and primates, is a gruesome display of lack of humanity. Every year thousands of these animals dies in captivity from untrained owners and there negligence.
There are an estimated 15,000 monkeys and other primates in private hands in the United States. Sadly, many primates kept as pets end up abused or neglected. Often acquired as infants, as they grow they can become too dangerous to handle.
The animals may end up confined to small cages, sold to roadside zoos, or back in the exotic animal trade for breeding.
Additionally, nonhuman primates can spread dangerous diseases such as Herpes B virus, tuberculosis and monkeypox. The Captive Primate Safety Act (H.R. 80) prohibits interstate and foreign commerce in primates as pets.
The Captive Primate Safety Act (H.R. 2964) was a bill introduced in the United States House of Representatives by Rep. Eddie Johnson on July 10, 2007.[1] The legislation, had it been enacted, would have modified the Lacey Act Amendments of 1981 to treat nonhuman primates as prohibited wildlife species, allowing exemptions for zoos and research facilities. The bill was passed by the House of Representatives but never received a floor vote in the United States Senate.
