Transmission Slipped, hit the gas to pass and the engine surged, then the transmission would hunt for the proper gear...
Oh and I am not kidding about this.... It was burning oil...
White smoke at idle, just a little bit... stomp on the gas and POOF... a belch of white smoke, just for a second...
