They should be thanking those black brothers of theirs that sold them
This is an idiotic statement. I find that people parrot this ideology. Let me resolve this issue. 1. "Black" is a color not a people. It is an extremely broad brush. Color racial labeling is a new phenomenon. 2. There were ETHNIC GROUPS of people in Africa that sold other ETHNIC GROUPS of people living in the continent at that time. Africa housed many nomadic people who migrated all over the continent to adjust to major climate events (droughts especially). Dominant Ethnic groups in Africa have a tendency to admonish the smaller ethnic groups. In the case of the people who were kidnapped and forced into labour, those people were seen as FOREIGNERS by the Dominant ethnic groups. This is how the genocide against the Tutsi occurred in Kenya. The Tutsi were seen as being foreigners. The Hutus had no qualms with slaughtering the Tutsi because they were a different ethnic group. 3. Africa's current issues were caused externally by European colonization. The Scramble for Africa in the 1800s drew lines upon the continent and did not take into account the various ethnic groups. Imagine if someone irrationally combined France, Spain and Portugal....and then said that the Portuguese were the ruling class.
I am Black. Black is a designation to describe Black people who are the first people on earth. Everyone was Black so they named themselves Black. They also named the soild Black because the soil is Black. Kemet. Look at any sub saharan Black person from Mali and you will see that they are JET BLACK. The Africans who sold other Africans thought they were selling them into indenture servitude which was common when one people conquered another around the world. The majority of Africans who were sent to America were of the ruling classes and were highly skilled in Agriculture,Architecture etc. They were sold in a purge of the rulers as Songhai rose and Mali waned, look up the dates of the fall of Mali and the advent of the Slave trade in America. The Chattel Slave trade was the most brutal genocide in human history and when it ended it was followed up with 100 years of literal terror called "Jim Crow" which was law enforced last class citizenship. That was followed up by Nixons war on Drugs where Nazi "Ghettos" were created in America to corral Blacks in pens of drugs and violence with low employment. Reagan War on Drugs followed Nixon and the the drugs became more powerful and the PRISON INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX was introduced to create a permanent non voting under class and slave labor. Welcome to the 21st century. Now that you know you cannot unknow the Nazi tactics, brutality and criminalization of BLACKNESS. And I am unbowed and STILL Proud to be Black. Now about that "War on Terror".....
Some of what you stated is true...some of it is VERY false. and...I call BULLSHIT on your Sub-Saharan comment. There is no such thing as a "Black" person or a "White" person. The "blackest" people who I have seen were Sudanese, but the entire continent of Africa is composed of various shades of BROWN. You cannot talk to an Igbo, Yoruba or Ashanti (which are actually made of smaller ethnic groups) and tell them that they are BLACK. They would look at you with confusion and correct your misstatement.
You can accept it or no I don't care because you do not define me. My ancestors already defined me when life began in the Nile valley, where even today the bones of the oldest humans can still be found. They called themselves Black. I will continue to call myself Black and you will call me Black too.
