[quote:ParallaxPam:MV8yMDY2MTAxXzM0NzY1OTkzXzg5Rjk2RDYz] [quote:Anonymous Coward 28226020:MV8yMDY2MTAxXzM0NzY0MzAxXzMxRTU1QjU=] Last year I was out of work and having a hard time finding a job. I offered to cut my nieghbors 15foot hedge that lines his entire yard, it took me almost a week to finish it and clean up the mess. He paid me 300$, I went to dinner that night and put 10$ down on keno and won 5000$. It was the answer to everything at the time and I would have been screwed financially now had I not won. So just because you haven't won doesn't mean that people are not winning, you just have bad luck the 10$ risk was worth it at the time. Also since we are making generalizations about people here in this thread, i've found that most rich people I've met are just tightwads and typically extremely narassitic, lacking any empathy for their fellow man. Rich financially and completly devoid of any moral value. But each to his own, if you like collecting a bunch of green paper that has no real value in the end, then more power to you. Just remember you can't take it with you when you go, and your kids will end up hating each other fighting over what's left.
yeah...things happen when they need to. My parents won the Kansas State Lottery several years back. It was only 60K and they ended up with 48K after taxes but it was enough at the time for them to pay off all debt and allow my dad to take the early retirement deal American Airlines was offering. Shortly after that (a couple of months) the house next door to mine was put up for sale. It was basically my parents dream house. They bought it and moved in. A year later my dad died from some inexplicable sudden illness at only 65. Lottery curse? IDK.
States across the nation rely on poor suckers to fund their spending. No, we’re not talking about taxpayers – we’re talking about lottery ticket purchasers. According to new studies, households earning $13,000 per year spend almost $1,170 per year on lottery tickets – 9 percent of total income.
As it turns out, many people living in poverty make poor financial decisions.
