[quote:Zerubbabel:MV8yMDY3NjkwXzM0NzkxNjc0X0IyRjFGNzQ0] We are, in fact, COLLIDING with the Sagittarius Galaxy which is an infrared galaxy so it cannot be seen with the naked eye. Also, in fact, we have a "cosmic river" (as opposed to an Atmospheric River--also known as an ARK storm) that is CONTINUALLY sending infrared material towards us that we simply cannot see with visible light. Eventually, we will fully merge with this galaxy. The space between objects is so vast, that the possibility of collisions is remote. However, gravity is being affected and could change the structure of our own galaxy. There is even some speculation that we are really not part of the Milky Way Galaxy; but that we are really part of the Sagittarius. In any case, if you look through an infrared telescope, that entire galaxy becomes visible to us and would appear much like the Milky Way appears to us now--but in the infrared spectrum of light. Even the "dust cloud" through which we are traveling could very well be coming from this other galaxy. As you can see from the following picture, this material is coming directly at us and has a long "river" of material following. The truth really IS stranger than fiction. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.astro.virginia.edu/~mfs4n/sgr/sgr.flyaround.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.astro.virginia.edu/~mfs4n/sgr/&h=600&w=800&sz=62&tbnid=fVfB7x--VL72uM:&tbnh=98&tbnw=130&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dsagittarius%2Bgalaxy%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=sagittarius+galaxy&usg=__VVhnxTqEDnwOULDevU5b-DpKHdM=&docid=KVsrBjSeB4swSM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=_3S5ULDBHeu00AHo6YGgAQ&ved=0CDsQ9QEwAg&dur=4797 [/quote]

Type the date in stellarium then hide the atmosphere and ground. Look for the sun then hide the sun by scrolling the screen until its not visible, then, the galaxy will appear.
