Whether Aussies like it or not, Australia has passed a law that requires all tobacco companies to ditch the iconic packaging that identifies them. Now all cigarettes will be packaged in a plain black box with grotesque pictures of the extreme effects of smoking with only plain text identifying the brand.
December 1st, 2012 Australia introduced a law that requires all tobacco companies to package their tobacco products in plain black boxes depicting photos of the extreme effects of smoking tobacco.
The stated reasons are to "strip the glamour that surrounds smoking and to hinder the youth from taking up the habit".
This is all well and good on the surface, but the plausible deniability only goes so far when you consider that cigarettes are still being sold and the Australian government is still raking in millions of dollars in taxes. It's like a prostitute on the corner still working their beat but wearing no makeup because prostitution is bad and she doesn't want to be accused of promoting prostitution.
But hey, people have their addictions, and packaging (nor makeup) will stop them from the end result: buying to feed the habit.
Here is the link to the new law:

I'm an ex-smoker of 20 years and yeah, it's good for people to quit, but the HYPOCRISY here is so wet and drippy that it makes me wanna puke!
Where has truth gone?
Next on the chopping block will be electronic cigarettes I guess. When they get big enough to make a difference. And they will....
