Mounties in Port Alberni, B.C., say the dog and his handler, Const. Jarrod Trickett, stumbled across the bears outside Trickett's home early Wednesday and the dog immediately went into protection mode and took on the bears.
The dog quickly shook off the battle, and within hours Rook successfully tracked a criminal suspect for more than a kilometre through brambles, bush and mud.

Dogs really are man's best friend. They'll risk their own lives to protect you.
My hounds chased off a coyote a few weeks back while I was fishing. The coyote likely would not have bothered me much, probably just smelled my shore lunch, but the dogs chased him off howling through the woods for 15+ minutes. After they were quite for a few minutes I whistled for them, and they came back after a while...unharmed.
