If your wife (or girlfriend) was choking and you weren't around, would you be comfortable with another person (man or woman) performing the Heimlich Maneuver on her?
Of course, you probably say, "Yes." because otherwise she would die, but that's not the question. The question is whether it would linger in your mind and bother you later that someone had that kind of physical contact with your wife/girlfriend.
Sometimes I think I'd rather be alone so that I don't have to deal with issues like this. You may say I'm too sensitive, but I think part of the problem is modern society. We're surrounded by strangers who we can't necessarily trust, and so I think it's natural to be overprotective in such a world. I miss the small towns and villages where everyone knew each other. I mean, if the person in close physical contact with someone is a brother, sister, father, mother, or other family member then there's a lot more trust.
