Original Message As a gun owner and shooter and a father of a 6 yr old daughter I was extremely alarmed by the recent school shooting. I enjoy shooting but admittedly, guns make killing easy.. The truth is, that in the hands of a maniac, they make it way to easy.

but is giving guns up truly a solution? Is throwing out the Constitution really an option. I would say no.

but there is an underlying problem and that is the mental state of the USA. Too many of us are on anti-depressants and psychotropic drugs, making us unstable and unpredictable.

in this recent case, the guns were not even the property of the killer.

so is there an option, which allows gun owners the right to own and fire a gun, while keeping these same guns away from manic psychos?

I believe so. Here is my proposal.

what if the local sheriffs department held guns in a locked room for each gun owner? In order to use it, you went and signed it out. You could sign it out for a day or a week or a month. The gun owner paid rent keep the guns locked up.

I know that this removes the guns from the home and hence, remove the ability to protect oneself, but most people I know keep their guns in a gun safe, which is inconvenient.

this is a sacrifice on the part of gun owners, and it is a sacrifice on behalf of those who say, take away the 2nd amendment. But it would take a pretty ballsy move, to go to the sherriffs office and sign out a gun and then go kill with it.. As a matter of fact, who would go ask a cop for their gun so they could go kill?

gun owners: surely this option beats having your guns confiscated forever, right?

gun haters: this puts the killing machines in the hands of trained professionals, who can observe the owner and look for signs of anger or anything that alerts them to something unusual about their behavior.

again, I own 8 different guns: 2 pistols, 2 semi-auto rifles, 1 shotgun, 1 pistol calibre rifle and 2 short barreled rifles. I shoot weekly. But gun sales have gone through the roof and who is to say that all of these gun owners are all together there.

buy a gun, it goes directly to the sheriffs department. Sign it out, go shooting, sign it back in.

BTW: when I was I. The army this was very similar to the armory. In order to get my m16 I had to sign it out and return it later that day. No different.
