Marine fossils found in southern Peru Chivay, Dec. 19 (ANDINA). Marine fossils were found 4,000 meters above sea level in the province of Caylloma, in Peru’s southern region of Arequipa, Mayor Elmer Caceres said.
Forty fossils, such as winkles, shells, limpets and turtle shells were found.
Caceres urged Arequipa's Regional Directorate to do some research in the area to determine scientifically the fossils' age.
The exact location has not been announced yet to prevent looting.
The fossils, which were discovered by a group of farmers from Caylloma, remain in the town hall and authorities expect to find a museum to display these pieces.

Once the ages of the fossils is known, we can then know that the moutains were under the sea at that time
