I ask this, because one of the gifts I am giving a few people this year is this book:
Unfriend Yourself: Three Days to Detox, Discern, and Decide About Social Media
It's not a plea to get off facebook, but to use it differently.
The author is basically saying that God has made us for intimacy and we are confusing interconnectedness with intimacy.
Facebook is stealing something precious out of our lives.
He said the difference between being on Facebook/social media and living in real life can be compared to looking at a photograph of a sunset and experiencing viewing one with our own eyes.
My son and I had a discussion the other night about this very thing.
He's noticed recently, that his posts have changed. He is doing what many others do and that is--to feel significant by getting rewarded with acknowledgment and approval each time his or her status receives feedback from ‘friends’.
As of yesterday, all that has changed. He deactivated his account.
I still don't have a Facebook account, I know I never will. I spend more than enough time on GLP. But GLP has been a learning experience for me--I especially like the up-to-date news and the wonderful people I have met here.
Anyways.
How about the rest of you?
Think you can fast from Facebook for 3 days?
Or if you know someone who is seriously addicted, why not offer them this book.
