[quote:Anonymous Coward 12365432:MV8yMDkwNjExXzM1MTk0NjMyXzZFOEI3M0I=] What kind of message does it send though? We just had a mass shooting, yet we tell them it's okay to shoot people in a virtual world. I agree that it doesn't necessarily make you a bad or violent person.I was playing doom and rise of the triad at maybe 8-9 and I'm a super easy going anti-violence guy but still I don't think it's a good idea.Things are a little different now. Everybody plays these games now it's huge, and everybody should be well aware that we have a problems with gun violence that need fixing.Letting children playing call of duty isn't the way to fix that. I picked my 5 year old daughter up from school today and was chatting to one of the other parents about Christmas and holiday plans. He started talking about presents and said he's just bout COD Black Ops 2 for his 5 year old son!
When I questioned him on it, he was pretty much "what's the problem? It's only a game". Am I seriously old fashioned and out of touch or has the world gone crazy? I'm knocking on for 40 and still play and enjoy the odd game from time to time but I really do believe that an 18 cert game is 18 for a reason. The experience is so graphic. visceral and much more involving than a movie.
I'm sure this same dad wouldn't let his son watch an 18 cert movie, so why are games seen so differently?
