Original Message There's a reason the right to bear arms is the 2nd Amendment and not the 3rd or 4th. Freedom is always first, and the ability to defend that freedom must be second. Most of us remember the shot heard 'round the world in Concord, but why was that shot taken?

On April 18, 1775, Thomas Gage sent 700 British soldiers to Lexington and Concord for the purpose of confiscating patriot arms cache and arrested Sam Adams and John Hancock (the two figureheads of the patriot cause). Paul Revere and his men set out to warn the residents of those two towns and specifically Adams and Hancock.

By the time the British regulars arrived, expecting to see farmers with pitchforks, they instead encountered a well-armed group of men in military formation pointing rifles back at them. The first shot (reported to be from a tavern corner who had served free drinks to patriots the night before) was the shot heard round the world. 500 well-armed men gathered to protect their families, beliefs and right to bear arms. Their success was what led to the Declaration of Independence, the Revolutionary War, and this country we now live in.
