[quote:amachiavellian:MV8yMDk3MjY5XzM1MzIxOTcwX0NFODk1QzU2] [quote:Nine's:MV8yMDk3MjY5XzM1MzIxODA0Xzg3Njc2NEJG] 'trimming down' Right. Laws are different. That's why I was asking OP what state they were in. Humane agencies should act on it, and if they don't have an agent available, in my state, the Agent could call the Sheriff and have them act on it. There are commissioners in any county who control funding for Dog and Kennel. Usually Humane Societies get their funding from them. If they don't act, the commissioners would be interested. Then, the Sheriff would be the one to contact and they'd probably either come or call the dog warden. But, that's my state. There's always the option to take the dog if the conditions are met, but it would be my last choice. My first choice would be to offer food and feed the dog, but it doesn't solve the shelter problem. If Op doesn't share, there's not much we can do except hope it's trolling.
Well all I hope is that the dog ends up alright. I'm glad your laws seem to be different than ours. Here, if I were to call our local PD, they wouldn't even come for a dog. Our local 'dog warden' is but one person on call after hours and that person's only responsibility is to collect loose dogs. Here, in a case of a lack of necessary care, I would not be able to get ANYONE out in a reasonable amount of time - particularly over the holidays. I, and the dog, would have to wait until Monday. It is a stupid and useless system where I live.
I called animal control yesterday but they never came. I checked online and it says their hours are M-F 8 to 4... so I guess they won't be around till Monday now.
Looking at the dog right now. It's just laying there in the snow. It's chain cannot reach the shelter of the porch. It has no food or water or shelter. It is so skinny. It does not bark any more - it barely moves around really.
I'm not a dog person generally - but this stinks!
The neighbors never pay it any attention at all.
Had my eyes trained on the house all day yesterday, waiting for animal control to come... I could see that no one even looked at the dog. The dad came home in the evening and I thought "maybe since today is Friday (payday) he'd have some food for the dog." Apparently not. He did not even glance at the dog.
The neighbors are poor and constantly borrow and beg things from us. They have 2 kids who I feel so bad for. I gave them a bunch of clothes that my littlest outgrew... my littlest is 6 (Kindergarten) and I gave them clothes for their littler boy who is 3 but very small. Gave them tons of clothes size 5 down to 2T... but I see the older boy wering the clothes all the time too - he is in 2nd grade - they are too small for him - but I guess that's all they have.
They are so screwed up. The mom will buy alcohol and cigs though... so sweet.
Just sucks to have to look at their situation each day. I feel bad for the kids... and now the dog.
Should I try to feed the dog? Or just wait for animal control?
Thanks for letting me vent a bit.
