I hope they go bankrupt. Corporate beliefs and opinions shouldn't dictate employees medical decisions. If your employer is a Scientologist should he be able to deny psychiatric coverage? If your employer is a Jehova Witness (god forbid) then should they be able to deny you a blood transfusion? Mormans could refuse to cover medications with alcohol in them. These corporate religious pigs aren't defying Obama. They are defying basic civil rights! :another do:
No company has a moral obligation to do anything other than to pay according to whatever is agreed to with that particular employee. Health "care" is NOT a right, nor a privilege. It's something we contract for and pay for - if we choose. The customer is king, and that's that. I believe in abortion, but I have no obligation to pay for it, unless it's for someone I choose to do so for. I'll patronize HL tomorrow if they have anything I want, as it's too late today. I'll go out of my way to support THEIR RIGHT to run their business as they see fit. All employees have the right to leave if they choose to.
You make a good point that employees have the right to strike if they don't like the policies. Employees have to take matters into their own hands so that the employer doesn't have a choice. I work for a unionized fortune 100 company with full part-time benefits that simply unrivaled even in a full-time occupation. The company doesn't have a choice and that's the way it should be. If they had a choice we'd practically be slaves. If a fortune 100 company that employs 400,000 can do it and be that successful, other companies should be taking a lesson from us. The customer is king and it starts with taking care of the employees. If the employees feel like wage slaves what will motivate them to be dedicated to the company?
I agree with you about the customer being king, but I disagree with you that you should bully your own employer. What a bunch of overspoiled, pompus brats we have become. An employer only has to pay you a wage. They provide the job, meaning "A need" and you fulfill that need by working, and then you collect a wage. Attitudes like that will be reasons that America needs a complete wake-up call. They don't "owe" you anything but a wage.
I think personal wellbeing is more important than a wage. Health insurance can turn out to be your lifeline and improves the quality of living more than a wage can. Throughout history we have had to bully employers for labor rights. Would you like to be stuck with the 12-hour work day? If it wasn't for "bullying" employees we would be working 12 hours a day. That is wage slavery. Employers should show dedication to their employees. Calling us pompous brats because we don't want to go bankrupt if our spleen fails while you line your pockets with our hard earned cash is absurd. The notion that we should pay out of pocket for health insurance is impractical. Employers get huge discounts on group plans which lowers the cost. The cost is being driven up because people land themselves in the hospital without insurance, go bankrupt, and then we take on the bill through increased prices. People end up with more serious health problems because they can't afford preventive care. I think your attitude provides a breeding ground for poverty. Which in turn, will come out of your taxes and health care gouging instead of your payroll. Thus, you have put more control into the governments hands, and we know how efficiently they control us to bankruptcy.
Well you have adopted a socialist mindset, then, because that's exactly how socialists feel...that well-being is more important than a wage. And a 12-hour day is a slave wage? I work up to 15 hours a day sometimes seven days a week...why...because it's my job! You want everything in a box...all equal...all just right. The world doesn't work that way. Employers don't owe you squat. What they provide for you is equal payback to what you provide for them, and that's an honest day's work for an honest day's wage. If they want you to work 13 hours and only pay you for 8, then go find another employer who is more to your liking. I'm just always amazed that people have this perception that YOU are the valued commodity. No, the customer is the valued commodity. The employer can do what it wants. If you don't like it, go to another employer who will. This drives competition. But, attitudes like yours have held companies hostage. Your "You MUST provide health care" mantras and your high demands lower the quality of everything.
More companies have to stand up. Like Beck states, "I WILL NOT COMPLY."
