Yeah, that song bothers me. I've heard it while flipping through the radio While I drive. It's catchy in a youthful, stylish Way that after the 10th time you hear it you Want to throw up. But what really bothers me is the dude sounds Like a pussy. I always tell him to grow some balls Before turning the channel. It just sounds like an anthem for an indecisive, whiny, Confused, morally bankrupt generation.
I kept hearing a song by Fun on the radio called “Some nights”. It had all these elements, plus it sounded rousing and seemed apropos of the zeitgeist of our nation in some way. So I went online to see the video.
This song asks the question “What do I stand for?” against the backdrop of the War of Northern Aggression (more widely known as the American Civil War). In this video, the singer is depicted as a soldier for the Federal Government.
The singer seems to be ambivalent about the cause, and questions his involvement, but, like all young people, is driven by his passions and the notion of a “cause”. The song has a distinct martial feeling in the rat-tat-tat of the drumming.
