Original Message Japan has made a decision to set up a special-purpose coastguard unit comprising 12 naval ships that would guard the disputed Senkaku (Diaoyu) Islands in the East China Sea, the islands that China claims are part of its territory.

According to the Tokyo-based media, the unit will also comprise some 400 servicemen of Japan’s Maritime Self-Defence Force, which is seen both as a border-guard and rescue service.
