46 years ago when I was 13, my friend C. and I were attacked just outside the south entrance of our high school. An older male student tried to rape my friend C. It was lightly raining off and on that day, and I had a plaid umbrella with a plastic elephant handle, that I was carrying. At 13, I was not old enough to carry a gun. All I had was that umbrella. I fought the attacker off, who was armed with a switchblade. He left my friend C. alone, and went after me. I fought him off with the umbrella. I smacked him with it until he had let go of C., and then used it as a shield, when he slashed at me. I was screaming and yelling the whole time, and NO ONE helped us. The bell finally rang for us to go back into the school after lunch, and the attacker ran into the school. My umbrella was slashed to ribbons, my friend C. was a basket case, and the attacker had cut me on my right wrist, at the base of my thumb. I was so pumped up with adreniline during the attack, I had not realized that he had got me through the umbrella I was using to block his knife, until I saw the blood on my arm. Long story short, because of the ongoing race riots at my school, the police chief and the school administrator made the attacker leave town to quell the situation. He went to Kansas City, and died there about 9 years ago. C. and I were told not to talk about this attack. Our parents were also told not to talk about the attack. I wear the scar on my wrist as a badge of courage, and a reminder that the world is not a safe place to live in. IF this attack had happened when I was an adult, there is no doubt in my mind, that I would have used my gun in self defense. I would not have hesitated to protect myself, and my friend C. For you anti-self defense liberals out there, if you choose not to carry a gun for self protection, that is your choice. I choose to defend my life, my families lives, and the lives of my friends, when neccessary, by any means neccessary.
