Funny-there aren't a lot of devout Buddhist terrorists.
But there are many Christian and Jew terrorist in high places
It would be interesting to have a breakdown on terrorist events since we have had accurate record keeping (after the Haymarket riots, probably) of who did what and what their religion was. That would be a project but would make for one heck of a graph to prove or disprove a point about religion and its influence on terrorism.
By the way, Sri Lanka has been home of several terrorist actions involving Hindus vs Buddhists. And the destruction of Cambodia under Salath Sar (Pol Pot) took place fully within the context of a Buddhist culture Actually, the breakdown of terrorist events gets cloudy when we try to isolate the motivation as to whether it is religious, political, or something else. For example, Eric Rudolph bombed abortion clinics specifically because of his religious beliefs. But he was also deeply linked to far right wing anti-government political activism. A lot of things that take the form of classic terrorist acts (bombings, arson), when committed by nominal Christians get lumped into varous categories other than terrorism, such as 'criminal mayhem'. Even radical Earth Liberation Front-type, or 'Black Bloc-type' actions may be committed by people who are nominally Christian or Jewish, but they are not motivated by religion, but by a philosphy. Fascinating topic -- and not a simple study.
After discussing here i realised that islam is really alien to most so got an idea to just find out what is the level of knowledge about islam among posters.
So can you all just post in short what you know about islam, i am hopeful that it would be educating and entertaining. Do post even if you know or heard weird things too.
Let me start by stating an example:
Muslims believe that they have been put on this earth to beg for Allah's forgiveness and to be allowed back into their "heaven". Their sole purpose on this earth is to pray to Allah.
They do not eat pork because it has been classed as an unclean animal.
All things other than humans have been put on this earth for us by Allah, they do not have soul's like us humans so it is ok to eat them.
You are not allowed to be intoxicated.
You must give to charity or be charitable and not harm anybody.
Only Allah can convert a non believer to Islam and Muslims must not try to convert.
